MMX is the EBX Group’s mining company. It was founded in 2005 and owns mines in Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul States.

Production

MMX has an installed capacity to produce about 7 million metric tons of iron ore per year in its two systems: the Southeast System and the Corumbá System.

The Southeast System is formed by the Serra Azul and Bom Sucesso Units. MMX exploits the Tico-Tico and Ipê mines, located in the Serra Azul Region–in the iron mining area of Minas Gerais State–and acquired in late 2007 and early 2008 respectively.

The Serra Azul Unit has an installed capacity to produce about 6 million metric tons of iron ore per year.

In February 2011, MMX acquired the mining rights for the Pau de Vinho Mine, which belongs to Mineração Usiminas, for 30 years. The mine is located in the area adjacent to the Serra Azul Unit, which greatly facilitates its operation.

The iron ore produced by the Serra Azul Unit is sold to customers in Brazil and other countries. At present, production for the foreign market is shipped by rail to the port of Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN), in Itaguaí (Rio de Janeiro State). When the Sudeste do Brasil Port goes into operation, MMX will have a new channel that will allow it to export iron ore.

MMX also has the Corumbá System–in Mato Grosso do Sul State–, which has been operation since 2005 and has an installed capacity to produce 1.5 million metric tons per year.
